Top Nollywood actors Justus Esiri and Segun Arinze were robbed in London some days ago.
The two star actors, lost their belongings at the Travelodge Guildford Hotel, on Woodbridge Meadows, Guildford, Surrey. They lodged in the hotel with some other visiting actors in London as performing crew members of three stage plays including Prof. Wole Soyinka’s Play The Lion And The Jewel. The plays were part of the activities lined up the ongoing 2012 London Olympic, produced by Olu and Joke Jacobs’ LUFODO Productions and sponsored by the Bank of Industry.
the two actors had left their hotel for a rehearsal at another part of London and when they returned to their hotel, they discovered that their rooms have been broken into, with their belongings and other confidential information stolen.
While Arinze, the immediate past president of Actors’ Guild of Nigeria, AGN, lost his iPad and other personal belongings, veteran thespian Esiri was the most hit as he lost his international passport, laptop and unspecified amount of pound sterling and other valuables. The police were promptly called in to conduct search of those rooms. But a source said the investigations may meet some brick walls as it was discovered that the hotel had no CCTV camera.
This raised eyebrows, as many people expressed their disappointment that though the actors were on a Bank of Industry-sponsored performance trip, they settled for accommodation in what could best be described as a backwater London hotel with a low price as 19 pounds.
Esiri and Arinze joined the likes of Olu Jacobs, Joke Silva, Bimbo Akintola, Keppy Ekpeyong Bassey among other actors on a month trip to present three stage dramas namely, The King Must Dance Naked, The Lion and The Jewel, and Naming Ceremony.
The three stage plays were held at the Nigeria House, Royal Theatre, Stratford, London.
